Confidence and the Heart of a Champion

After being the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft, Tom Brady told New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft that he would be the best draft decision the Patriots had ever made.

During an interview in August of 2011, Eli Manning made reference to himself as being an elite quarterback. One of his teammates then quipped, “You can’t spell ‘elite’ without ‘Eli.’” Manning did take a little heat because of his comment.

On Sunday, these two champions will meet for the second time in what some call “The Greatest Game on Earth,” the Super Bowl.

What caused these two quarterbacks to make such lofty comments?

It was a healthy sense of confidence exuding out of the hearts of two champions.

It’s one thing to be arrogant and cocky; it’s entirely different when words of confidence flow out of the heart of a champion.

If you want to develop the heart of a champion, there are three things you must do:

1. Believe
Champions believe they can win. Championships are won in the heart before they are awarded on the field.

2. Learn
Champions invest time and effort to learn how to win. They are students of the game, they know their opponent, and they step onto the field prepared with a winning strategy.

3. Work
Champions work at becoming champions. They practice hard, and they take action which leads them to success. Champions execute their strategy to put themselves in the best position to win.

Do you believe you are a champion?

What do you need to learn which could put you in a better position to win? What action do you need to take or skills do you need to practice?

If you have the confidence of a champion and the winning record to back it up, you can’t help but have a little extra swagger in your step.

Game on!

  • Great Points!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim, I love the way you lay this out. A champion has to win in the heart first. You have to learn and you have to work.

    Thank you for writing this!!
