Expecting Twins

Posted in Self-Development on August 25th, 2010 by Tim Enochs

There are three questions that you should never ask a woman:

1) How old are you?
2) How much do you weigh?
3) Are you pregnant?

Imagine running into someone you have not seen in a while, and noticing that they appear to be sporting a tell-tale bump in the belly area. Before you know it, you’ve said it: “Are you pregnant?”

Appalled, the lady replies, “Well, no….do I look like I am pregnant?”

I actually asked this dangerous question — and got that very response –while onstage at a recent event! You may be thinking a lot of not-so-nice things about me right now, so let me tell you the rest of the story…

While speaking at the BabyFest event about The CHILD Game Plan — a book I wrote with NFL agent Bruce Tollner about creating a Game Plan for children from birth to age 17 — I asked a volunteer to come up on stage with me. By the way I set it up, she knew that, although she clearly wasn’t pregnant, I would probably ask that question.

When she responded, “No, do I look like I am pregnant?” I emphatically replied, “Yes, in fact, I believe you are pregnant with twins.”

You see, we are all pregnant with twins: Purpose and Promise.

The question is, what will we do with these two?

It is important to point out that you can be pregnant, and not be “expecting.” It’s possible to be pregnant, but not yet be aware of it. Expecting infers that you know you are carrying the potential for life and possibility, and you are doing everything you can to prepare. I believe that some people are pregnant with purpose and promise, but are currently walking around with no expectations.

In Every Day is Game Day I wrote that “Purpose begins to come into focus at the point where desire intersects with potential.” Your purpose lies somewhere in the area where what you want to do (your desire) aligns with what you have the potential to do.

Now that certainly doesn’t mean that everything you want to do, and could do, makes up your purpose. That could get you in trouble. However, your true purpose does lie within that area. and you have to discipline yourself to find it. In doing this, you must understand your “why.”

There is no doubt in my mind that, when you identify your true purpose, you will have the potential to bring it to fruition.

Are you living your life with purpose? Are you realizing your full potential, and living out your promises to yourself and to other people?
